Facility Fitness

The Facility Fitness program offers training and consulting services to community-based nonprofits that are focusing on the acquisition, development, or long-term lease of permanent affordable space to house nonprofit programs.

Through customized, in-depth technical assistance assessments, facility readiness workshops, and individualized consulting, the Facility Fitness program helps nonprofits address issues critical to the successful management of a community facility project. It also enables leadership and management to improve the likelihood of the long-term success of their real estate ventures. Nonprofits will learn how integral real estate commitments (either ownerships or leases) are to financial performance and long-term sustainability, and how to manage real estate investments proactively as an integrated part of their organization’s overall strategic plan.

How Facility Fitness Can Help
  • Each client engagement begins with a preliminary screening, and moves on to a comprehensive financial and project assessment, in partnership with the nonprofit client.

  • NCCLF will then provide a customized and cooperatively drafted technical assistance plan and assessment, often times leading to continued support of a nonprofits’ implementation.

  • We offer consultations and workshops that emphasize organizational readiness, facility planning, capital campaigns and project financing, the design and construction process, and post-construction real estate management.

Destiny Arts Center

Since its inception in 1988, Oakland’s Destiny Arts Center has empowered a diverse community of youth, ages 3-18, through arts education and violence prevention, in an environment that promotes peace. Destiny Arts considered its facility needs and options for permanent space to house its programs and offices.

NCCLF worked with Destiny Arts to assess the issues, challenges and risks related to a facility project and the various options available to finance the purchase of a facility. NCCLF also helped the organization assess their financial readiness for a capital project, including consideration of a capital campaign and the operational expenses related to a new space.
